This past weekend was my wife's birthday, so we threw her a party. 6 of our close friends came by for a night of drinking, card games, and the like. It was a rippin good time. For the party I picked up a ton of beer, including a Widmer mixed 12. About half way through the party, someone told me that the Drifter tasted like massive grapefruitage. I took a sip and verified, however I did not drink a full bottle until today for this review.
And saying that this beer is grapefruity is an understatement. Smells like fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice. Tastes like you're biting into a grapefruit. What is most interesting is that it isn't a type of grapefruit flavor I've tasted in a beer before. All the grapefruity beers I've tried in the past were incredibly hoppy. The Drifter is much more on the sweet malty side rather than the hoppy side.
Other details?
It's copper in color, and has an ABV of 5.7. Poured with only a little head, which dissipated quickly. Low carbonation. Easy drinking.
All around a good beer. I wouldn't have guessed that it was a pale ale though!

Weird, I just bought a six pack of Drifter. I quite like it. I don't find sweet though. It's thin, very drinkable with a grapefruit aroma and undertone I don't find terribly strong. For aroma they use Summit and Nelson Sauvin hops. It's also dry hopped with the above mentioned.
Bittered with a hop I'm unfamiliar with, Alchemy.
Maybe I just got a bad batch, but I thought Drifter tasted like ass. And I normally like Widmer products.
